Firstly, my apology for not blogging yesterday. We had 2 days of grey and rain (which is unusual here) and I was just too… hors de combat… to write.
Yesterday was the big 1st of May brocante. The day started sunny and we headed off to the village with excited anticipation over what we would find. We grew disappointed as the day got darker and darker. It didn’t ruin our enthusiasm, though, and we found some really neat “coquette” prints (naughty images of 18th century boudoir love) and a print of a Napoleonic-era woman. I scored the deal of the sale, though, treating myself to a terrific 1960’s men’s robe that I scooped for 1E. Yes, I said ONE EURO.
By the mid afternoon, though, the heavens opened up and the rain came down – in various intensities – for the rest of the day (and into the night, too). I was really disappointed by that because 2 grey/rainy days in a row are very rare, and we’re in the middle of the holiday and this is no time for the weather to change.
Thankfully, by this morning, the skies had cleared except for a few puffy clouds here and there, and we were able to get out for a good morning promenade on the heights above town. Because the road runs right by it, we stopped into the Vieux Chateau cemetery for some of the very best views of the town – reserved for those who rest in eternal peace and the few of us willing to make the steep trek up the mountain to it. Hope you think the photos were worth it.
We thought perhaps we might go into Monaco tonight for supper, but we changed our mind and have stayed home instead. The pan it to go back into town after supper and treat ourselves to an ice cream cone for dessert.
Today’s weather: Mostly sunny with a few clouds and a high of 24C.
