May the 4th go with you!
I like saying that every May 4th.
Hard to believe that yet another week has gone by!
It was, of course, brocante day in Menton, so we had a look around. Sad, but it’s like at home. A bunch of sad old merchants hauling around a bunch of stuff that they have over-priced and seem to want to take to their grave – ‘cause they ‘aint gonna sell it with the prices that they have on them!
Of course, we are complicated by the fact that if we buy anything, we have to be able to get it home on the plane (or we’re forced to pay up charges for overweight luggage, buy another piece of luggage, or mail it back to ourselves in Canada).
We have decided if the weather is good, we’re going to go to the Nice antique market on Monday. I’m on the search for a silver, over-the-top, Marie Antoinette pie lifter for serving my baking with. I saw one once years ago (at the Nice market) and know that there will be more like it out there – but as I say, the traveling show that stops in Menton on Fridays just isn’t offering me anything tempting (the brocante on the 1st of may didn’t do anything for me, either).
This Sunday is the French Presidential election. I’m not really up on the whole thing (I don’t even know French political parties!), but thy thunder clouds are rumbling the Sarkosy is going down in flames to a more right wing candidate (There is a guy by the last name of Hollande, but if I understand correctly, the real threat is from a woman(!) whose name I do not know). Anyway, not much concerned other than the fact that the French like to protest and that sends the trains in turmoil.
So selfish, I know!
Todays weather: Started out sunny. Then intermittent clouds, followed by solid clouds. 24C was the high. Weatherman calls for rain tomorrow:-(
