Paris - the city where winos drink VCP and the Eiffel Tower says "Made in China."
Today saw cloudless skies and downright hot temperatures of about 74 degrees. I can't believe the contrast in the weather compared to a year ago when we were here with Carolyn & Scott. It was chilly and grey a lot of the time - and now it's turned so warm that I even have the AC on in the apartment (and yes, even Paul agrees that we need it!)
Today we got up at 7am and after breakfast, headed off on foot to the Tuileries Garden - the big park that stands between the Louvre and Place de la Concorde. It's one of our most favourite spots in town. The grounds of the Tuileries, believe it or not, are actually where a second royal palace stood from 1559 to 1882. It was demolished by the order of the 3rd republic after the uprising of the Paris Commune burned it (on purpose) in 1871. The place wasn't all that crowded when got there, although the warm weather had brought the people out early. We just enjoyed sitting on the bench and watching the people go by. the plantings and statuary are magnificent, and it's a real treat to be in such a big park in such a busy town.
We strolled home and stopped at our local patisserie for a slice of pizza each for our lunch. By then, my tent was folding and I needed a nap.
Being gluttons for punishment, we went out again in the afternoon and visited both the Church of St. Louis en Lille (easily one of the most beautiful in the city) and Notre Dame...
We're just mastering the art of doing what we want, when we want. So far, the plan hasn't let us down....
